What You Need To Consider When Buying Refurbished Products And Electronics

by Raul Quiroga

We cannot deny that the economy these days isn’t as good as it used to so an average consumer is always on the lookout for ways and means to save as much as they can on their purchases.

Why do we need to buy new when we can get the same product refurbished and get up to 90% savings without really much difference. Getting a refurbished product does not mean low quality. Refurbished items are products returned to the manufacturer for various reasons:

1. Customer Returns – these are items returned to the store where it was purchased within the return time allotted (usually 15 to 30 days) because the product is defective.

2. Dent and Scratches – An item was returned because of dents or scratches which could have occurred during shipping.

3. Overstocks – A store returns excess inventory to the manufacturer.

4. Open Box – The box that the item is stored in has been opened.

5. Recalled Products – these are products that were recalled for not meeting the quality standards.

Any item with a factory seal that has been broken, the retailer can no longer sell it as new and tag it as refurbished. Most of these items are returned to the manufacturer to be tested, repaired and inspected making it suitable as a refurbished product.

An average consumer can save as much as 50% or more considering what the product is and its age. Older brands tend to be priced more aggressively than newer models. It can really be a real cost cutter to buy a refurbished item than have the newest product available.

One important factor to consider when buying a refurbished product or electronics is to make sure to inspect it in all its functionality and return the same within the return policy period or within its warranty period of 90 days. Have the product tested and plugged as well especially for electronics as yard sale often is on an “as is” basis.
